Hello Jennings Family,
I am pleased to say that my students and I have made it through the first five weeks of school. We have settled into routines and have gotten to know each other. I can truly say I enjoy every student in my classroom. Our focus the first five weeks of school has been centered around reading information texts. We have explored persuasive texts as well as texts which inform us about the world. Students are gaining proficiency in determining main ideas and the details which support those ideas. Additionally, they are transferring their understanding of main idea and supporting details by using these skills in their writing. We are currently progressing through the writing of an argument essay. The next five weeks will see us incorporate literature into our reading. The reading selections are "Huckleberry Finn" and "The Grapes of Wrath." Students will learn about text structures and plot. They will continue to compose essays, and new for us will be Socrative Seminar. I am as excited about our classroom today as I was in August. Feel free to drop in and join us. We love having visitors! Sincerely, Ms. Foster |
